From Greg Hanisek

Tuesday, July 13, Litchfield, Little Pond - one PIED-BILLED GREBE, one AMERICAN BITTERN. Bittern flew in high from SW about 7 a.m., circled pond once and then plummeted into the marsh. There was quite a bit of Great Blue Heron activity in the preceding hour. If you see a GBH fly over that looks like it's had its legs cut off, take a closer look :).

There were also quite a few fresh juvenile Swamp Sparrows, a number of them hopping around on the boardwalk allowing close approach. Very snappy looking birds, heavily streaked and with buff highlights. Quite unlike the adults.
