Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 8.5 hours
Official Counter: Colin Horstead
Observers: Dave Verkley, Keith Sealy, Mark Cunningham, Tom Stewart
Visitors:
A few visitors again today....John Froome (London) and Alex Fraser (Port
Stanley)...our thanks for their help spotting birds today...and as always a
big thanks to the hawkwatch crew for today's count...Colin, Dave V., Mark,
Keith and Tom S.
Weather:
Winds actually started the day from the NW light then swung around to the
WSW and then SW. Nice skies for viewing with a mix of sun and cloud...temp
to a high of 19C.
Raptor Observations:
It was an interesting day today at the hawkwatch....Total birds
today...739....including a 4 more Peregrines.
For the first 2.5 hours 6:30 to 9:00am >>>>> 8 migrants...and then the
last hour 2 to 3 pm >>>>>> 364 migrants !
Colin was there today at 6:30 (EST) to 7:00 am... with a flashlight! (lol)
but didn't have a single bird for the first hour. The hourly counts slowly
increased as the day progressed with totals of 8, 2, 38, 62, 95, 60 and
then the flood gates opened and they tallied another 364 including a a BW
kettle spotted to the north over the tree line. There were raptors all over
the sky .... so many and spread out in fact that the counters felt they
missed many birds. The majority of the AKs came in along the cliff ...
Sometimes 20 together!
Non-raptor Observations:
No non-raptor report today.
