Hi Paul,

It uses rollers that roll around the swage fitting, and slowly press into it.

That was what I was trying to remember. I.e., two-part die press, vs. the
rolling press design. Do I care which design of press is used, so long as
it is rated for the correct wire size (our biggest is 14mm Dyform).

Fortunately our rigging is relatively small compared to the Americas Cup
and Whitbread boats that Southern Spars does routinely. But of course
those boats have very short lives <g>.

I have never heard of chrome plating being used on threads for that purpose;
or perhaps you have something else in mind that I'm missing?

The suggestion was specifically for solving this problem for CRES/CRES
turnbuckle threads. My source was competent, but I don't recall the
origin. If you need to know more I can rumage my archives.

Cheers,

Steve
