Esther and I recently completed the Milt Baker Med Bound 07 (Florida to
Gibraltar) cruise on Salty Dawg (N55/4), owned by David and Lowie Bock.
Below are some "Real world" figures on speed, fuel consumed, and hours run
on three long passages at various speeds.  These figures are consistent
with those seen in previous cruises on the same boat offshore from the
Bahamas to New England and return last season.

Trip statistics: Fuel usage does not include an average of 3 hours
generator use per day.

Leg 1, Florida to Bermuda

Miles traveled-1,020
Engine hours-140
Gallons fuel consumed- 852
Miles per gallon- 1.2
Gallons per hour- 6.09
Miles per hour- 7.29

Notes for above- We ran faster than our usual as we were in the company of
seven other yachts, the two largest were 62 feet.

Leg 2, Bermuda to Azores

Miles traveled- 1,795
Engine hours- 291
Gallons fuel consumed- 1,095
Miles per gallon- 1.64
Gallons per hour- 3.76
Miles per hour- 6.17

Notes for above-Only three yachts on this leg, the smallest was worried
about range for the first half or so of the trip, so speed was reduced from
our normal.

Leg 3, Azores to Gibraltar

Miles traveled-1,185
Engine hours- 175
Gallons fuel consumed- 769
Miles per gallon-1.54
Gallons per hour-4.39
Miles per hour-6.77

Notes for above- Probably about our normal cruising speed. In fact though,
for the entire trip, Bluewater (AKA "Holdback vessel", Nordhavn 47) was the
lead vessel and we varied speed to match Bluewater's, so engine rpm varied
frequently to hold station in varying currents.

Overall trip Florida to Gibraltar statistics

Miles traveled- 3,989 miles
Engine hours-608
Gallons fuel consumed-2,721
Miles per gallon- 1.47
Gallons per hour- 4.48
Miles per hour- 6.56

We were undoubtable slowed to some extent by the drag of four fishing lines
(and the odd fish) during daylight hours.

We expect to spend the balance of the summer cruising the Spanish Med coast
and Balearic Islands then return to our winter Florida home in Fall. The
Bocks and the boat will remain in the Med for the winter of 2007-8.

Salty Dawg's owners and crew wan to extend to Milt and Judy a hearty
"Thanks" for all the work that went into getting everyone across the "Pond"
without incident.
