Seven Seas Cruising Association (which had never been very trawler
friendly--although recently they proclaimed that they had become so) had long
defined a passage for Commodore membership, as a voyage 1000 miles or more in
length with out stopping. I had a little problem with that, since you can
theoretically go 1000 miles on the inland passage to Alaska and not stop, but
be in protected waters. Also 2000 miles with limited stops sufficed at one
time. I dropped my SSCA membership years ago, and the current Commodore
requirements don't seem to be on line.
Personally I consider a passage at least 1000 miles on open waters where there
is no stopping or anchoring.
Ocean Cruising Club has a similar defination:
"Eligibility for full membership depends on the candidate having completed a
1000-mile (minimum) non-stop passage between two ports by the shortest
distance as skipper or crew in a craft of not more than 70 feet LOA. "
