We have a decked out 14 foot Caribe RIB with a 60 HP Yamaha weighing about
1100 lb on the boat deck of a Nordhavn 55. Do to boat design it is mounted on
the starboard side and must be lowered on the aft port side. With a bow and
aft line my wife and I have no problem lowering it a similar distance to the
water except in rough seas which we try to avoid. The 14 feet fills the boat
deck and I wish I had gone for the 13 footer with a smaller engine to allow me
to walk around the boat rather than over or under to get to the other side. I
think that a RIB--hypalon is the only way to go--good ride and resilent to
bumping into things. I've had 2 Zodiac PVC Ribs fail on me previously.
Lee--where are you in Turkey? I am currently in Marmaris for a few days of
boat maintenance and we have been cruising the Turquoise Coast this summer
having wintered last season in Kemer and this winter will be in Alanya.

Subject: [PUP] Tender choices

I need some advice. I am building a 50' steel RPH trawler (full width
salon, no side decks) here in Turkey and will store the tender on the
boat deck above the salon.
I have a choice to buy either a 14' all fiberglass tender (like a
boston whaler) that weighs about 180 kgs empty or a Walker Bay hard
bottom inflatable, about 12 feet long, that weighs empty about 80
kgs. The winch and boom can support about 300 kgs.
I believe that the boat will have to be lowered about 15 feet from
the boat deck into the water.
The question is how to I load and or offload the tender without
banging the side of the trawler.
Does someone have a fool proof way of doing this?
And, while the fiberglass tender appears to be the better choice for
indestructibility, am I messing up here by not picking the hard
bottom inflatable?
Or, is their a third choice?
I need to make this decision real soon as Turkey just lowered the 2
"sales taxes" on tenders from 15% and 18% to 1% total, to end at the
end of November.
yes, I know, 15% and 18% tax ...... wow....
Guidance, Suggestions, advice...
Thanks
Lee
