To All;
Steve's post reflects my view as well. I hope that George will
reconsider and that Jeff will continue to provide his expertise to the list.
The following is an un-official count of the "Active Captain-et.al." thread:
Total On-Line Responses - 13
Total On-Line For Returning "Active Captain" to the List - 10 (76.92%)
Total On-line Against Returning "Active Captain" to the List - 2 (15.38%)
Total On-Line Un-Sure - 1 (7.69%)
While 13 is not a huge percentage of the total list members, it clearly does represent, rather pointedly, the feelings of the respondents. I presume, maybe wrongly, that this list was developed to provide a non-profit service to its members. This action against "Active Captain", based on the response noted above, does NOT appear to meet this goal.
I also do not appreciate being treated like a child and "told" what I can and cannot read. My vote, included in the numbers above, is FOR Returning Active Captain to the List.
Thanks
John Blair
We vote to include Active Captain. We appreciate the views that Jeff and
others bring to the list. While I would not support a complete
commercialization of the list, I do think that those that are relevant and
provide options and suggestions are important to the list. I may or may not
agree with all the suggestions that are presented, we are all adults and can
make better informed decisions because of Jeff and other who are
contributors to the list.

I think that there is some real confusion here. Nobody in authority has
mentioned excluding Jeff from posting, rather we are being told that Jeff
cannot answer questions about Active Captain because his website has a
"Store" tab on the home page making it a "for profit" website by the list
owner's interpretation of the list's rules. Some of us feel that the public
service character of the website outweighs that small "commercial"
component. So, we are requesting a waiver of the rules so that Active
Captain, per se, may be discussed.
Nobody's integrity is in question here; it's just a question of how the list
owner chooses to apply the rule. Frankly, there are a decent number of
respondents whose replies implicitly advertise their services. That doesn't
offend me either as I want the information from those with experience.

I believe I get more information from this list however I get far more very
important to me information from Active Captain (AC). The long, frequent
discussions on single vs twin, which anchor, how to dock, AIS or not, how many
times to blow your horn etc are interesting to varying degrees but when I am
on the water they don't mean a thing compared to what I get from Active
Captain.
It didn't sound like Jeff was kicked off the list, at least not yet, however
he apparently was asked not to discuss AC here. I really would like to hear
his responses to questions as they probably mean more to me then many
discussions here.
I never have seen where Jeff had any flagrant discussion of using AC, so I
don't really understand the problem, could it be jealousy?
Jeff perhaps you should start your own list. You could call it T&T with Active
Captain.
