<<After two seasons  of chasing down driveline vibration,
the yard finally dialed the shaft  and it was bent (.005").

"Dialing the shaft", or putting a dial indicator on the
shaft and rotating the shaft to check for true running, is
not difficult and should be done when aligning the engine
if there is the slightest hint of a problem (hit any logs
lately?).  Assuming reasonable access to the transmission
coupler area, (a big assumption on many boats) <30 mins
should do it (when doing the alignment at the same time).

Mark--------How can you tell a shaft is bent by measuring at the coupling
and not that the coupling is out. Please tell me the procedure used.
