From Frank Mantlik

Here's the results of our 10/14 Big Sit at Milford
Point.  The core group consisted of Frank Gallo,
Patrick & Jim Dugan, and Frank Mantlik.  FG kept the
official list, but since he hasn't posted anything
yet, I decided to.
101 SPECIES (they may have added one or two more after
sunset).  This breaks last year's CT record of 93, set
at the same site.
HIGHLIGHTS:
GREAT CORMORANT, AMERICAN BITTERN (2), YELLOW-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON (3), SNOW GOOSE (6), 12 species of ducks
including NORTHERN SHOVELER, NORTHERN PINTAIL (3),
COMMON EIDER (1-on plover-nesting bar), BLACK SCOTER,
WHITE-WINGED SCOTER(3), 11 species diurnal raptors,
BALD EAGLE(2), 15 shorebirds including AMERICAN GOLDEN
PLOVER, WILLET, WHIMBREL, WESTERN SANDPIPER, PECTORAL
SANDPIPER, CASPIAN TERN(1-fly by to the west),
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOO (out in open and even down to
marsh-edge), MARSH WREN, SWAINSON'S THRUSH, HERMIT
THRUSH, AMERICAN PIPIT, 8 sparrow species including
WHITE-CROWNED and SALT MARSH SHARP-TAILED, BOBOLINK.
(Misses included RT Loon, Killdeer, lesser yellowlegs,
phoebe, any vireo, fish crow, Carolina wren, either
kinglet, gray catbird, cedar waxwing).
In all, a fabulous day of birding from one spot!
