I am looking to install a Princess 3 burner electric stove/oven combination(I will entertain any comments about this choice), but the real question I have is how to cut the corian counter top without destroying/chipping it.
I need to enlarge the hole in the counter top to accept the larger burner/stove.
I am looking for any advice as to how it should be done. I assume using a circular saw that cuts on the upstroke is out.
There is no access to cut from below.
Has anyone done this before?
Thanks in advance.

Richard: A router is the way to go... Assuming the cuts are to be on the
two sides of the opening for the stove. Use a streight cut blade in the
router. (describe your job to the store clerk) Measure the distance from
the outer edge of the router base to the closest edge of the router bit,
then secure ( hot glue, clamps, etc) a board to the counter top as a guide
for the router. Make a shallow cut on each side of the opening, remeasure
and adjust guide boards as needed. Make the cuts in stages, that is, lower
the blade a little after each cut. You might have to use a hack saw blade
for the last couple of inches. (the more you spend on the router bit, the
cleaner the cut will be.)
Good luck...jd

You made an excellent choice-----call a kitchen cabinet outfit, they would
know better than anyone.

Richard,
Joe advice is right on. To amplify, get a tungsten carbide router bit.
Anything else is a waste of time. Wear a dust mask. You can purchase
straight pattern bits with bearings at the top. Then, using the
hot glue method, you affix a guide strip on top of the Corian and the
bearing will follow the guide strip. As Joe says, you may want to remove
only a 1/16" at a time.
A tablesaw can work for cutting Corian to dimension. Use a Triple Chip
Grind (TCG) carbide tipped blade with approximately 80 teeth on a 10" inch
blade. It cuts easily, just keep a constant feed rate and don't stop.
Good luck,
Ron Rogers
A ROTOZIP tool works really well. They are available mail order and at Home Depot. Once you use one you'll never go back to a circ or recip saw for jobs like this one.
