Bob & All,
I'm finally back at the boat and I looked at my BAIL book, "Anchorages in
Southwest Florida".  It is the first edition, copywrited in 1994.  The
information in the website in question is IDENTICAL to the BAIL book...the
text, photos and charts are the same.  Much mention is made of the Florida Sea
Grant College Program in the acknowledgements and elsewhere in the book.  As
one might expect for a book published 12 years ago, there is no mention of a
website.  So which came first, the chicken or the egg and is the book the
chicken or the egg?
Regards,
Randy Pickelmann

Randy--Wow!
Bingo--I won't make this entire comment on the list, but  look at:
http://news.ifas.ufl.edu/archstory.php?id=06

This was written in 1996, and was a study of 47 anchorages, co-ordianated by
BAIL:  Boaters Action and Information League!  I don't have the book, but if
it is the same information, it may validate my suspicians about this study!
The 1996 date--vs the Sea Grant 1999 to 2005!

Actually if you trace this out--the above started in 1988.  There is the
West Coast Inland Navigation District, which gets 2 million dollars a year and
is afilliated with Sea Grant.

I suspect that there is some good science in the whole thing, but it may be
a bit difficult to sort out.
The question is how much does it help the boaters?  Do you know anything
about this whole thing?

Thanks!

Bob Austin
