Okay, I did a quick search of Ancor's site and they don't appear to provide the instructions on-line.  I have used the same tool for a number of years in the same manner that Ron has with total success.  My question to Alan is that are you referencing an actual Ancor instruction sheet?

Ron Said:

One side is wider than the other and that's the side for the vinyl only end of the terminal. The part of the terminal that is a vinyl covered metal barrel is crimped onto bare wire much more tightly than the vinyl only portion which is compressed onto the insulated portion of the wire. The latter portion is for strain-relief.

Alan Said:

The following is what the Ancor instructions say:

Omportant! When placing the terminal into the appropriate color-coded nest
make sure the area to be crimped onto the exposed wire strands is opposit
the colored dot and on the smooth arc side of the die. The opposite colored
dot side of the die with the indent in each cavity is designed to put the
second crimp in the insulation portion of the wire."

A convoluted way of saying that the end of the terminal that receives the
wire is on the same side as the dots.
