From Meredith Sampson:
2/06 - Old Greenwich, private yard on Highview Ave. - YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER.
Today's balmy weather brought in hundreds and hundreds of Common Grackles and
Red-winged Blackbirds seemingly everywhere in Old Greenwich and Riverside,
except at Greenwich Point - not a single blackbird there. Brant have been on the
move and increasing all week, with large numbers feeding/staging at the point.
A Double-crested Cormorant was seen this morning and Thursday morning. Speaking
of Cormorants, there seemed to have been much fewer this winter. Anyone else notice
the same?
The Yellow-throated Warbler has left 64 Arch Street - last seen a week ago Wed.
What a trooper he was, having made it through the worst of winter. Hopefully,
he's on his way to some happy nesting ground to raise more hale and hearty
Y-th. Warblers. The homeowners miss him terribly.
Still have about 30 siskins and goldfinches at my feeders daily. Love hearing
their "burry" song every morning, which I'll miss when they head north.
Have a great weekend with great birding, all! - Meredith
