BUYER BEWARE NOTICE
Transport Canada insists we install a class D VHF DSC radio. They
have a list of ten approved radio models. The list is available on their
web site <www.tc.gc.ca/MarineSafety/>. However some of these approved
radios cannot access the USA mode. I bought a Koden model SX 35 and it only
has the international frequencies. I could not access 78A, 22A or any of
the USA mode channels. Victoria Marine Electric tried to program in the USA
channels but the result was not satisfactory. If you do decide to buy one
of these radios make sure they can access the frequencies used in Canada.
