Downtown On the Go is now Tacoma On the Go

Tacoma, Wash. –  Downtown On the Go is ecstatic to announce it is now Tacoma On the Go! The Tacoma On the Go board of directors unveiled the new name and logo at the organization’s annual Connecting Tacoma fundraiser on October 9th.

Downtown On the Go was created in 2009 as a program of the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce, focused on providing resources for employers, commuters, and residents in downtown Tacoma. DOTG became a 501(c)4 nonprofit in 2014 in partnership with Pierce Transit, City of Tacoma, and the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber of Commerce. While still focused on downtown Tacoma, over the years DOTG’s work to increase safe mobility for all expanded throughout Tacoma.

Through a strategic planning process, the DOTG board voted to formalize the organization’s work outside of downtown Tacoma, including updating the organization’s name to Tacoma On the Go.

“This organization has always been about mobility and connection – connecting neighborhoods, connecting Tacoma to the rest of the region, and connecting advocates who care about transportation to the political process,” said Anneka Olson, Tacoma On the Go board co-chair.

“It’s incredibly exciting to officially be Tacoma On the Go,” said Laura Svancarek, executive director. “We have always worked to address inequalities in our transportation networks. We know that safe infrastructure is not spread evenly throughout our city, and we know that South and East Tacoma are especially overburdened by traffic violence, lack of resources, and the many impacts of high traffic roadways. Formalizing our commitment to city-wide work is an important step toward achieving our vision of a connected, multimodal Tacoma.”

“There are so many people across Tacoma who want to be able to get around safely on foot, on bike or other mobility devices, and by bus, but don’t yet feel it’s safe for them and their families to do so,” added board co-chair Terry Jungman. “We know that the need is great across Tacoma to ensure that every person can get to where they need to go safely and comfortably.”

Tacoma On the Go offers services, resources, and programs for commuters, businesses, and residents in the greater Tacoma community, while advocating for policies that make it easier and more equitable for everyone to get around without a car.
