I can give you a partial answer, but I'm not sure of the correct procedure.
If you look closely at the top window frame you'll see that it is 2-piece. The "top channel with the felt" fits inside
the main window frame. My local glass shop replaced my side windows. I think they opened the sliding window
the whole way and then starting at the opposite end, pried the top channel down along the whole length. From
that point I think they pulled the channel out horizontally.
