In my opinion the only place to use gelcoat is if there are areas or
crazing/cracks and gouges and the rest of the gelcoat is in good shape.
The two part L P is the best solution. My Cal 46 was ""Awlgriped" for 11
years before it was redone. By this time it had become a bit faded and
somewhat shopworn. DO NOT COMPOUND or WAX the two parts. I did parts and had
done other parts of the deck and deckhouse with two part brush on and roll on
"Sterling". This was getting somewhat shop worn at the end of 5 years. I
have also used "Brightside" and "Easy Posy". I did my motor home with this
one part 3 years ago and it still looks good. Certainly the one parts are
easier and cheaper. I feel that a very good professional has to spray the
Awlgrip. (My cal 46 looked better than new when I had this done prior to
selling her, and certainly got top dollar).
In any of these jobs the preparation is the hardest! You must have the
surface absolutely clean and free of any wax, oil or silicone. All
inperfections must be filled and a good epoxy primer applied.
Good Luck,
