We are new to the world of cruising and are planing our first cruise
this coming March. The cruise will be the Eastern US circular cruise.
The question, one of very many, is does it make a difference if we would
belong to a Yacht Club? Would that benefit us at various clubs along the
way?
Thanks You.

Don't know about the area you're going to travel in. However, here on
Lake Ontario there are over 60 Yacht Clubs that give each other
reciprocal privileges such as first night docking at no cost, use of
clubhouse facilities etc. Perhaps along your journey there are
similar arrangements available. Check it out.

Depends on what you call a benefit. I've found that cost of docking is not
likely to be reduced, if a dock is available at all. Most clubs would
welcome a paying dinner guest, and the privelege of enjoying their
facilities could be a benefit or maybe not depending on the club. Some clubs
will reciprocate by permitting you full access and will send the bill to
your own club, so there is no cash exchange as such while there. Others
simply take credit cards and you're treated as a customer.
Some are physically kinda not much, and you would wish you'd skipped it.
Others are spectacular and not to be missed. If you can plan to visit during
a club event, you would be much more pleased. Races, parties, cruises, fun
events (Build-a-boat, etc.) can be entertaining and beautiful to watch such
as a spinnaker race finish in the sunset.
People, as in all things, make the difference. Having a friend there or
making a new one will make it worthwhile because you'll get to be a
temporary member of sorts and find out what's going on.
FYI, our club will send a letter ahead for us requesting a grant of
priveleges. I think they also want an incoming letter for visitors.
Shouldn't ever be a problem, but it shows that you need to plan ahead.
