Peninsula Art League’s meeting, January 26, features member Karen Marie Petrillosewho will share what she learned at the Nicholas Simmons workshop at Art in the Mountains in Bend, Oregon, in August 2013.    The location is the Gig Harbor United Methodist Church, 7400 Pioneer Way.    Social time begins at 5:30 p.m.; the meeting begins at 6:00 p.m. and the demonstration begins at 7:00 p.m.  The meetings are always free!  Petrillose will cover Nick's signature techniques such as wash out, cell painting, paint flinging, sewing machine, large unusual sizes and use of Photoshop and digital projector to design paintings.   A PAL scholarship helped Karen to be able to take this course, for which she is eternally grateful.  Petrillose has received 15 awards (including several Best of Shows) since attending that workshop (which she feels is no coincidence!).Karen was signed up for Nick's AITM workshop in August 2015 which Nick had to cancel due to ill health and, sadly, he passed away in September.    This presentation will be a tribute to his greatness as an artist, teacher and mentor. Petrillose, born in Watertown, New York, has been a Lakewood resident since 2001.  Many of her recent works are on display at the Ebb Tide Gallery, where she is the January guest artist.  Ebb Tide Gallery: 7809 Pioneer Way, Gig Harbor, WA 98335  (253) 851-5293  Karen Petrillose webpage:  www.pacificgalleryartists.orgNick Simmons:  www.nicholassimmons.com
