Dear friends,
Our school is going to adopt textbooks and add the courses of Spanish 3 and 4 in the fall. Most students are not native speakers of Spanish.
Could you please share your recommendations for what textbooks to use or even what to avoid?
Your input is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Janet Kessler

I have used Paso a Paso, Expresate, and Realidades and Realidades is my favorite for 1 and 2. Not familiar with their 3 and 4, but would assume they are good. What I like is that you have alot of good supplemental materials to go with each lesson, including a song for each vocab section; either a rap or salsa type song that my middle and high schoolers thought were fun. I'm not a fan of Expresate and am puzzled as to why so many school districts go with it.
Paso a Paso I and II are also good, with student friendly type exercises.
Good luck!

I agree with both Jessica and Margo. I really like Triangulo for the upper
levels. We use Realidades for levels 1 thru 3. Of course there is no
perfect book and we are more than ready to adopt to new books for levels
1-3. I'm looking forward to new adoptions and see what is out there for us.
Good luck with your adoption,

¡Saludos a todos!
We still use Exprésate 1 & 2 in the Middle School, but switched to Descubre 1,2, y 3 and Imagina in upper school.
We like Descubre better for high school for many reasons; also the vocabulary and situations are more "grown up". Like Exprésate, it comes with the online "supersitio" for homework, video, flash cultura, L/A, quizzes, tests, vocab. flash cards, etc.
John Conner'sBreaking the Spanish Barrier Advanced Level 3 is a great grammar companion for level 4.

I'm seeing most like Realidades. I have considered adopting it for our
school. Veronica Putney from St. Andrews brings up something I have not
considered.
My question is, if you didn't have Spanish in JH, would it be wise to use
Descubre 1, 2 and 3 in HS without any background in Spanish?
I do like the idea that there are more "grown up" situations and vocabulary
though in the Descubre series.
We currently use Expresate, but I am ready to change and challenge my
students a little more.
Comments?

I agree with both Jessica and Margo. I really like Triangulo for the upper

1-3. I'm looking forward to new adoptions and see what is out there for us.
Good luck with your adoption,

I have used Paso a Paso, Expresate, and Realidades and Realidades is my
favorite for 1 and 2. Not familiar with their 3 and 4, but would assume
they are good. What I like is that you have alot of good supplemental
materials to go with each lesson, including a song for each vocab
either a rap or salsa type song that my middle and high schoolers thought
were fun. I'm not a fan of Expresate and am puzzled as to why so many
school districts go with it.
Paso a Paso I and II are also good, with student friendly type exercises.
Good luck!

Publishing is good for Spanish IV. I'm not a big fan
of the level 3 book of Exprésate.

Dear friends,
Our school is going to adopt textbooks and add the courses
of Spanish 3 and 4 in the fall. Most students are not native
speakers of Spanish.
Could you please share your recommendations for what
textbooks to use or even what to avoid?
Your input is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Janet Kessler

I'm seeing most like Realidades. I have considered adopting it for our
school. Veronica Putney from St. Andrews brings up something I have not
considered.
My question is, if you didn't have Spanish in JH, would it be wise to use
Descubre 1, 2 and 3 in HS without any background in Spanish?
I do like the idea that there are more "grown up" situations and vocabulary
though in the Descubre series.
We currently use Expresate, but I am ready to change and challenge my
students a little more.
Comments?
