Cruising America's Great Loop and other inland routes
View all threadsLoopers, If you think you have all of your charts, please check this posting.
If you are using the core of engineers charts coming down the black warrior,
they end at the top of Mobile Bay and you will be missing chart # 11376 NOAA
(NOS) Chart 11376 - Mobile Bay - Mobile Ship Channel - Northern End about
$20.00. This chart will get you into Florida ICW and the Maptech ChartKit 8
Florida West Coast & Keys.
The second "gap" is the missing Cumberland River Chart. Ohio River Navigation
Charts - Cairo to Foster. And the Tennessee River Charts from the Corps Of
Engineers, these do not include the Cumberland River, and Barkley Canal route to
the Tennessee River. We've done this section with no chart onboard using a
gross USA chart on a hand held Garmen GPS. I wish I had the chart while doing
it, but the route is pretty straight forward. If you have not purchased your
corps of engineer charts yet consider River Charts - Cairo Illinois to Tennessee
River by way of Cumberland River & Barkley Canal. Bluewater
has copied pages from both Corps of Engineers river charts for the Ohio River,
Cairo Illinois to Foster Kentucky, and the Cumberland River chart books. This
collection enables the Great Circle cruiser to get from the Mississippi River,
up the Ohio River to Smithland and the Cumberland River, 30
miles up the Cumberland to the Barkley Lock and Dam and then two miles to the
Barkley Canal to the Tennessee River. Retail price: $19.95 A steal!
