Total observation time: 7 hours
Official Counter: Jonathan Stein
Observers: Andrew Sturgess, Rodney Laura
Visitors:
Paul Cypher, Rosemary Brady and a few others dropped by throughout the day.
Weather:
Cloud cover was near total. Temperatures were mild. The wind was light and
out of the south.
Raptor Observations:
Pretty slow again today. The highlight was a short-eared owl that crossed
low over the lake shortly after we arrived.
Non-raptor Observations:
There was a great black-backed gull floating on the lake early in the
morning. Black-crowned night heron migration continued unabated. More than
15 were seen during the 11 o'clock hour and several more were seen later in
the day. Horned larks were also on the move. More than 20 larks passed
overhead throughout the day. Also, nine hooded mergansers flew by in the
afternoon.
Predictions:
Overcast with a 100 percent chance of rain in the morning and a 70 percent
chance of rain in the afternoon. Looking like a late start or a complete
washout tomorrow.
