'Lo All,

I use Coast Pilot #5. I have the printed version a well as a downloaded Adobe
PDF file. The printed version is definitely easier to use, but the downloaded
version can be more easily updated.

Downloaded Coast Pilot #5 is divided into chapters, just like the printed
version and is very easy to use, other than having to open a new chapter in
pdf, which does take some time. But then, its free.....

I use a free version of Adobe Acrobat. No cost there either.

I think the downloaded version is very usable, especially when looking at
areas of interest out of this area when no printed copy is available. Of
course, one can also print the Adobe files and put a copy into a loose-leaf
notebook.

I think whoever did the Coast Pilots Online did a great service to all. If
one doesn't want to use it, that is their choice.

Please read this note that I found on the CG site at the beginning of the
Coast Pilot *.pdf section:

"ECP v.1.0 files contain information from the current edition of the Coast
Pilot books. They have not been updated by subsequent corrections published
in the NIMA Weekly Notice to Mariners, the Coast Guard district's Local
Notice to Mariners, or NOAA's website. These files do not meet 33 CFR 164
carriage requirements."

So, they are good, but an experiment and "They have not been updated by
subsequent corrections published in the NIMA Weekly Notice to
Mariners......".

About 2 weekes ago my VHF started to behave strangely.
I turn the power on, and the backlighting where the
channel number is lights up. The channel does not come
on however. After a few minutes, the unit seems to
"warm up", and the channel lights up and the unit
appears to work fine. Power is available, as the unit
works fine after a while. Im not sure this is a
self-fixable issue. It never did this prior to a few
weeks ago. Any ideas?
