TWL: searches and water tanks

Sorry, I have been away for awhile and do not remember the best way to do a
search of the Trawler World archives. A short reminder would be appreciated.
Second, I plan to increase my water capacity so I am installing a 20 gal
Todd tank with an additional 9 gal Todd tank on top connecting both as one
tank.  I plan to have the fill hose enter the top tank with a smaller hose
connecting from this tank to the larger 20 gal tank. I will then use the 20
gal tank feed line for both tanks.  My question is: Do I need to vent the
bottom 20 gal tank or will the top tank vent handle both tanks.  Thanks.

On the water tanks, it would seem that you'd have to vent the top one, or at
least make sure if you put a vent in the bottom one, the vent is higher than
the top of the upper tank. Otherwise, the water will just run out when you
fill them both.

As for the archives, here's a note from Alex earlier:

Over the last couple of days there have been several questions about the TWL
Archive.
Since our Help Team Archive Guru, Joe Weinbrecht, is in the middle of moving
I thought
that maybe I could provide some answers.

  1. Why can't I access the archive?

I just checked and the TWL Archive is up and running. The correct address
for the "front
page" of the archive is:
http://lists.samurai.com/pipermail/trawler-world-list/ . Please
make sure that you're using that address.

It's possible that the archive site may have been down for a short while.
Samurai has been
doing some upgrades recently and that might have affected the web site. I
rarely use the
archive so I really don't know for sure.

  1. Could the 'by date' archive page be configured to put the newest posts at
    the top of
the list rather than the bottom?

No. There are only a few archive configuration options available to us and
changing the
display order isn't among them. Keep in mind that the archive isn't intended
to be the
primary method of reading this or any other mailing list.

  1. How can I search the TWL Archive?

Go to this website:

http://www.irbs.com/

In the middle of the page you'll see two boxes. The box on the right
contains a drop down menu showing the various lists that I.R.B.S. archives -
Select Trawler World List

The box on the left is for your search term(s). Type in your search term(s)
and hit enter:
Voila!

Their search engine supports single words, multiple words, and quoted
(short) phrases.

A couple of caveats:

  1. The I.R.B.S. site is not in any way related to Trawler World or the
    Trawler World List.

  2. Some of the hits that you get will turn up empty messages. I have no idea
    why this
    happens.

I hope that covers everything.

Archivally yours

Alex

Avast!

My last post elicited some more questions about accessing the archives. [Why
can't I
generate this much interest in snipping?]

Shown below is a pair of addresses for each of the public Trawler World
Mailing List
Archives. The first address in each pair is an ordinary URL address, while
the second is
the same address in "IP" format. If you're trying to get to the archive and
you are
getting a "not found" error, try the IP address. One common reason for a web
site to be
unavailable is that there is a malfunction in your ISP's "Domain Name
Server" which is the
thing that actually figures out where to look for the addresses we type in.
By using the
IP address you bypass the DNS. If the problem was with the DNS then you're
home free. If
the problem lies elsewhere then at least you've eliminated one possible
reason.

I obtained these IP addresses through http://jeays.net/webtools/unfilter.htm
: Type in a
web address and it gives you the IP address.

So, why not use the IP address exclusively? Well, as I understand it, IP
addresses change
from time to time for reasons too arcane and esoteric for us mere mortals to
understand.
[FWIW: Your very own computer has an IP address whenever you go on line and,
it's
different each time you go on line.]

These addresses are for the Trawler World List Archive:
http://lists.samurai.com/pipermail/trawler-world-list/

http://3452902481/pipermail/trawler-world-list/

These are for the TW B.S.T. Archive:
http://lists.samurai.com/pipermail/trawler-world-buy-sell-trade/

http://3452902481/pipermail/trawler-world-buy-sell-trade/

The TW Great Loop Archive
http://lists.samurai.com/pipermail/trawler-world-great-loop/

http://3452902481/pipermail/trawler-world-great-loop/

And finally, the TW Hybrid Power Archive
http://lists.samurai.com/pipermail/trawler-world-hybrid-power/

http://3452902481/pipermail/trawler-world-hybrid-power/

Numerically yours,

Jim,
You will need to vent both or the lower tank will fill  VERY slowly and the
top one will fill and  THEN drain to  the lower one. As the lower one fills
there is little opportunity for the air  that is being displaced by  the
water to evacuate except thru the fill hole. A vent line is too easy to
install to not do  it  thus having to put up with a very slow fill rate.
I have a similar set up with two fuel tanks , except that they are side by
side with a 3 inch connector hose. Each tank is vented to help the fill
process.
