Orinoco is planning a fall trip from the Cumberland river to arrive in Houston mid December.? We will leave boat in Memphis for 6 weeks in Oct to go to our land house then proceed down river to Greenville-Vicksburg.

Any advice-cautions from the group?

Robert,

As a matter of fact YES.

We have done the exact trip.

Cumberland, down the Mississippi past Memphis and "Vicksburg, turn right
into the Atchafalaya River and then join the ICW to Houston.

There are a number of articles on our website detailing our trips.
I strongly recommend your plan to turn OUT of the Miss. at the
Atchafalaya.

Note that there are only marinas at Memphis and  Greenville. The casinos
do not want you to tie up tho they may allow you to overnite IF you call
ahead. When we did the trip they did not allow even that. You could tie
up over night but could not stay on the boat!!!!!!!!

I have  a long list of anchorages for the Miss. Note that I used only a
few but many are listed as possibilities. Caution about that. You are on
a big river and as the river fluctuates the viability of anchorages
varies!!!!!!! I listed what I saw on the day that we traveled.

That said, I like the Miss and would do it again. It is actually one of
the easier rivers. Know the whistle signals and give the tows a wide berth.

On your arrival at the intersection of the
Atchaf. and the ICW at Morgan City be sure to get in touch with us as
that is where we live. Fuel, always cheaper here.

Aside, if you have time detour at the Arkansas, river and go out to
Muskogee, Oklahoma. It is a nice trip and neat to take your boat through
the mountains!!!!! Besides, Muskogee just opened a big new marina.
