Hi folks
My friend lives down by Branford Center Cemetery here in Branford. She was
quite alarmed to see hundreds of dead fish along the banks and floating in
the water. I have photos I can send to you showing this. I wondered if
anyone can make any suggestions if this is normal after a storm or if we
should be concerned with something else going on. The reason why I am
posting this is the Branford River is home to Ospreys and other fish eating
birds. This year shore birds were at a minimum as we feel the ecology of
the area had been disrupted due to the illegal dumping of toxic wastewater
into the river by Atlantic Wire - which is now shutting its doors. Should
we be alarmed to the possibility that Atlantic Wire as a last hurrah dumped
so much water or that with the storm something has been stirred up from the
river bottom?
I'd greatly appreciate any insight on this matter and if someone should be
contacted regarding this - whom should I refer to?

Regardless of the suspected cause, it is a good idea to report all fishkills to DEP.? Check out this website and scroll down to "fishkills" where appropriate phone numbers are listed" http://www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2690&q=322474&depNav_GID=1511.? If there is evidence of foul play, be sure to report that too.???
