Seattle native John Kiley has been working with glass for nearly twenty years.  During his career he has worked on the teams of a number glass masters, including Dale Chihuly and Lino Tagliapietra.  Kiley was awarded this Hot Shop residency as part of the prize for winning the People' Choice Award at the Museum's 2010 Red Hot Party & Auction.

                                Nancy Callan explores the notion of play in her work.  Although light in spirit, her artwork demonstrates her mastery of the medium of glass and traditional Venetian techniques.  During this special holiday residency, Callan will create large-scale glass snowmen.

                                A Pacific Northwest native, Jason Christian began his glassblowing career at the Glass Eye Studio in Seattle in 1998. He has worked with other established artists including Martin Blank, Robert Jones and John Bennett.  Christian specializes in making functional works of art including stemware and decanters in the style of the Italian masters.

Ongoing Exhibitions Gathering: John Miller and Friends Organized by Habatat Galleries November 5, 2011 - June 10, 2012 Gathering showcases works created during a series of collaborations between John Miller and some of the most influential artists in the contemporary glass movement. The exhibition includes 25 Venetian-style goblets that are dramatically exaggerated in scale. Each sculpture highlights the intricate nuances of the goblet form while also demonstrating the artistic expression of the collaborating artists, including Fritz Dreisbach, Einar and Jamex de la Torre, Paul Marioni, Karen Willenbrink-Johnsen, Davide Salvadore and Martin Blank. Beauty Beyond Nature: The Glass Art of Paul Stankard Organized by Robert M. Minkoff Foundation November 12, 2011 - June 17, 2012 Beauty Beyond Nature presents more than 50 of Paul Stankard's intricately flame-worked still-life sculptures encased in clear crystal from the Robert M. Minkoff Collection. With amazing technical skill, Stankard creates a variety of flora, insects, figurative elements and poetry that demonstrate his acute powers of observation and exceptional artistic sense. The magnifying effect of the crystal brings out every intimate detail-the fuzz on the inside of a petal, the fine sheen on a dragonfly's wing, the fantasy world of the 'root people'-and invites the viewer to celebrate the natural world through art. Parenthetically Speaking: It's Only a Figure of Speech Organized by Museum of Glass, Mildred Howard and Gallery Paule Anglim Through April 29, 2012 Parenthetically Speaking: It's Only a Figure of Speech is a new collection of work by San Francisco-based artist Mildred Howard comprising more than 40 glass punctuation marks, proofreading symbols and musical notes. The work is inspired by At the End, a poem by Howard's friend and Peabody Award-winner Quincy Troupe. Both the poem and the exhibition reference punctuation as a metaphor for the passage of time. Glimmering Gone: Ingalena Klenell and Beth Lipman Organized by Museum of Glass Sponsored by Russell Investments, the Robert M. Minkoff Foundation, Linda & Gerry Nordberg, the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass, and KUOW Public Radio Through March 11, 2012 Glimmering Gone is an exhibition conceived and created by American artist Beth Lipman and Swedish artist Ingalena Klenell that comprises three large-scale installations of colorless and white glass-Landscape, Mementos and Artifacts. Experiential and interrelated, the artwork was produced by the artists individually in their home studios and collaboratively during a two-week Hot Shop residency at the Museum of Glass in January, 2010. The installations present a metaphor for material culture, landscape and life. Birds by Toikka Organized by Museum of Glass Through January 16, 2012 Birds by Toikka is a collection of Oiva Toikka's most well known works-his glass birds. The bird selection, which include rare prototypes and pieces from the Museum's collection, showcase an extensive range of glass technique and style, demonstrating a remarkable breadth of work. Transformation: Art Changes a City Organized by Peter Serko and Museum of Glass Through January 16, 2012 Photographer and downtown Tacoma resident Peter Serko has been capturing the many moods of the Museum of Glass since 2006. In this exhibition, Serko presents a selection of his photographs of both the Museum architecture and the Chihuly Bridge of Glass taken during different times of day throughout the seasons. In conjunction with the exhibition, Serko invites community members to submit their best MOG photographs, a selection of which will be included in a video montage displayed alongside his prints. Made at the Museum: The Visiting Artist Collection Organized by Museum of Glass Ongoing The Visiting Artist Program brings artists from the region and around the world to the Museum of Glass to work with the Hot Shop team to explore, invent and create with glass. After each residency the Museum and the artist select one work of art to be included in the Permanent Collection. These objects are rotated on and off display throughout the year as new works are created. The Museum of Glass provides a dynamic learning environment to appreciate the medium of glass through creative experiences, collections and exhibitions. In addition to the Hot Shop Amphitheater where visitors can watch artists work, the facilities include galleries, outdoor exhibition areas, a theater, hands-on art studio, grand hall, café and store.
