Hi, I was watching this site several months ago and the Idlewilde trawler that circumnavigated used a Kuboda engine. I am interested in some of the technical issues about this application, engine rpm, reduction ratio, prop size? I am considering a Kuboda for repowering my round sterned, hard chined, bulbed bowed, 43lwl, 13ft beam, 4.5 draft 45000 pound steel true trawler type. My 44hp MAN is proving difficult to obtain spares for as it was not popular in this country

"engine rpm, reduction ratio, prop size?" Are really matters for a NA, a
designer, or a propeller manufacturer. Michigan Wheel has an online program
that can be of some help. Start with the largest prop that achieves the
proper tip clearance on your boat and work back to the reduction gear and
engine horsepower. The lower the engine rpm the better.
