Hi, When I started working in 1971 at VAFB (now VSFB) at the Vandenberg tracking station (still in business there) we had a Manson RD180 that was used to provide a standard for our UHF uplink to satellites. It had the 5Mhz output and I remember replacing all the F cell ni-cads on it once. It was a cool beast and if I remember correctly it used a mercury thermometer with contacts to run the oven. It was in a rack and powered 24/7 and the PMEL guys would bring a special setup up from the base to calibrate it in the rack. It was excessed when our UHF uplinks were no longer needed. I REALLY REALLY wish I had made a copy of the manual when I had the chance. :( Hope you can find a manual somewhere! Cheers, Corby
Thanks Corby for your recollections. Here are a couple of photos of my Manson RD-180A. 24 F-cells to replace!
A poster at eevblog says he's run his Manson for 35 years and is amazed that the mercury switch for the outer oven has kept on running with a typical cycle of about 10s on and 0s off for all those years.
