Ahoy again from Joe & Wendy aboard MV Surveyllance, 40 foot Wittholz custom, currently iced-in in northern Ontario Canada. Just returned to the list after unsubscribing for the busy times of our Big Pain Boat Show season. It is with great interest that we read the Caywood's journeys in Pacific waters. We have not done that kind of cruising in almost ten years, but suddenly by reading Ann's last post, I am reminded of the dreaded times of shutting down the main for daily inspections when off shore. This is never a recommended practice but a very scary,dangerous and necessary evil. I even went as far as getting to know how much lube oil my 6-354 Perkins consumed in a 24 hour period at a particular RPM setting, and just went below and added it each day, hoping that it would suffice... While this is also a not-recommended-practice, it worked for us because we had the boat for a long time and knew her very well. Quite frankly we forgot about the ordeal, now that we cruise much shorter Atlantic coast distances, ICW waters and Bahamas' island hopping. Since the subject is back in my mind, I'm posting this to hear from others on the list, of how they handle this problem. There must be a product out there, possibly an electronic metering device, that would allow unlimited continuous use of the engine in small boats such as ours, as is done with larger sisters of our engines in commercial and military applications. Now a different topic; How many of you would like to see a website comprised of pictures of T W Listees and/or their boats? (I looked for this kind of page on the Trawler World Home Port but did not find anything - if in fact it already exists, disregard this and please let me know where it is.) We have some space left on our server and I would be happy to build and maintain a page dedicated for this purpose. Pictures could be e-mailed or snail mailed to me. Joe ___________________________________________________________________________ It is interesting that you suggested the picture posting just a few days after I proposed something similar to The Chris Craft Antique Boat Club that I am a member of. After asking the owner of the club in a private mail for his permission, we have posted about 10 or 11 photos with captions so far since Friday. It is nice to put a face to the words we share on the list. I think it will cut down on flaming. I decided to use the Photopoint site because of the "neutrality" of the page that the pictures appear on. There are provisions for captions also. Someone must maintain and have access so that the pictures can be added and maintenance done. It is a simple site to use and it is free. It only requires participation by sending a .jpeg photo and caption information. I would suggest asking Georgs for his input first. Obviously I like the idea......
