There is no end to the debate over the reliability of singles versus twins. From my perspective the failure potential is about equal of the two options when one considers the greater potential for fouling the running gear on twins. However, the clincher for me is the improved ability to dock with twins. A single even with a bow thruster will never have the maneuverability of a twin, espescially if the latter has a thruster. I know I will get flamed by the old salts who dock with a single, sans thruster, backwards, with their eyes closed. But this fair-weather boater appreciates all the help I can find getting into even my own familiar slip. And with a twin, I have a spare everything if one side goes down for whatever reason (the exception being common dirty fuel issues).
