Yesterday's snow fall brought a large flock of blackbirds to my feeders. Included was
1 rusty blackbird, 10+ redwings, 10+ grackles & 100+ cowbirds
The flock has returned today but I have been unable to pick out the rusty yet as they are very
jumpy, continually rising into the trees. A sharp-shinned hawk grabbed a bird from under the
feeder early this morning so they are very wary.
Hopefully this flock will continue its migration as I really don't want to be feeding cowbirds all
winter.
There was also a juvenile northern shrike in the yard yesterday. I see this bird frequently but
have never seen him catch anything although he does give chase.

Hi
Just a very quick report about the St. Catharines CBC - I don't have all
the reports yet so I can't comment on high or low numbers.
A new bird for the count - YELLOW WARBLER!!!! Yep. A Yellow Warbler found
by Rob Dobos and his team. Way to go guys!!
And a bit of strange news. We had 3 species of owls - Screech, Snowy and
Short-eared but no Great Horned???? Might have been the weather conditions
because we had heavy snow early in the morning.
So far I have 74 species for the count, which is about average for the
St. Catharines count, but remarkable considering the weather
and road conditions. A more detailed report will follow later in the week.
All the best
