I just signed up for Verizon's America's
Choice plan with 400 anytime minutes and unlimited nights (after
9 PM) and weekends, plus 1000 verizon mobile to verizon mobile
minutes, for $40 a month.  I chose the Kyocera 2235 phone
(relatively simple) with the Mobile Office Kit, which allows me
to connect to the internet without any ISP but Verizon, no extra
charge.

I connected yesterday (holidays are also unlimited minutes) for
70 minutes and was able to surf a little, but had trouble
navigating from one web site to another.

I'll be very curious to find out about the actual charges on this. We have
Cingular and have been told that when we are using the cell phone as a modem
we will be charged "anytime minutes" whatever time we are using it. There
ARE no "free" nights or weekends with it, in other words. We have one of
those nifty little Motorola V60T phones, and I suspect that's where the
difference will be. On our old Nokia there was no difference in charges,
whether we were on the phone or on the laptop connecting to the internet. It
was also a lot slower. Keep us posted, Mark.
