One of the guys that did the study on computers and power supply problems
for us back in the mid eighteys, and coined the term "erosion" said it was
like syphilis- you could deal with the symptoms but it would eventually kill
you. I still think, as far as plugging my computer into an unknown power
source is concerned, abstinence is the only certain deterent for erosion.

My ThinkPads don't seem to be bothered and I have a Freedom 25 MSW inverter.

I'm with you. My at least 12 year old Compaq Presario laptop doesn't seem to
mind being plugged into a 180 watt inverter from Wal-Mart. It's not ever
crashed while running Maptech Offshore Navigator unless I was fooling with
it while piloting and not paying enough attention to what I was clicking on.
