Hi, I posted here a few months ago about trying to make a rubidium
frequency standard (including the physics package). I was hoping anyone
might be able to help me with or point me in the right direction as to what
power supply this lamp uses (https://www.ebay.com/itm/134577166410), and
whether I would need to take any safety measures for the radiation it'll
emit. The papers it came with state to be cautious regarding the radiation,
and only on the power needed for pulsed operation of the unit. Also, I was
wondering if anyone had some good tips for making a Helmholtz coil at home
(one axis), for inducing the Zeeman effect in the vapor cell via a static
magnetic field?
Thanks, Leo
A ham friend has a 10811D and wants a manual on it or at least a
schematic. Even though I know a lot about 10811's having worked for HP,
I don't know off hand how the "D" is different than the other models.
I have only been able to find a manual for the A/B version, and a 4
page data sheet dealing with the D/E versions, mainly discussing the
external connections to them. AFAIK, the innards of any 10811 model
are the same. Can anyone educate us on this question?

Rick,
This 111-page PDF contains info on both the 10811 A/B and 10811 C/D,
including schematics:
http://hparchive.com/Manuals/HP-10811AB-Manual.pdf
See especially pages 75 - 100 for details on all the variations.
Note the A and D models use the familiar hp 10544 compatible 15-pin edge
connector while the B and E models use SMB and feedthrough connectors.

That clears up the confusion. I actually have an original (not
photocopied) version of this manual ... somewhere. So there is
no "10811D" manual as such; the manual titled "A/B" actually covers
all versions.
