I have a number of dome shaped ceiling lights with the double contact bayonet
bulbs and would like to replace several of these. I seem to remember someone
having found a replacement for these units consisting of several LED's
mounted on a PCB which could be installed in the dome. I can not find that
post. I have looked at replacement LED's with a double contact bayonet
connection but the LED are all "pointing outwards".
Are the LED's like incandescent bulbs and emit light in all directions and
therefore will be reflected from the reflector in the dome light or are they
more directional and therefore need to be pointing more downward rather than
to the side?
Thanks for any suggestions.

Stephen,
Wal-Mart (among others) sells a trailer tail light which contains the PC
board with red LED's you seek. It's about $8, and you have to tear it apart
to get the board, but it's not hard. The board has two small wires which
you then crimp or solder to the wires that used to go to your double contact
bayonet bulb socket. Drill a small hole through the board and use a sheet
metal screw to attach to the light fixture where the old bulb used to be.
The first one takes about an hour, and about 20 minutes apiece after that.
Most LED's are rather directional, so the ready-made LED bayonet bulbs won't
work very well in your application; the light will mostly be pointed
sideways.

This sounds like just what I've been looking for. I think I might give it a
try. All of my sound insulation has disolved into a gooey mess! Appears to
be easy to install which would be a great help. You have to be a real
contortionist to get to alot of the areas I need to insulate.
Thanx,
