I love this toilet!
http://www.raritaneng.com/products/toilets/electric/marine_elegance.htm
have since shortly after Raritan introduced it...and so is Practical
Sailor. They rated it "best in show" in their comparison of macerating
toilets in their February 2011 issue. Tecma was the "gold standard" that
revolutionized high-end marine toilets...the Elegance now holds that
place. It uses less water, draws less amperage, is incredibly
QUIET!--and, if you know where to shop, sells for only $600 with the
optional "Smart Flush" panel added that offers 4 different flush
options, an option I highly recommend.

Discharge can any direction, out the rear left, right or straight back
or down...though you may have to order the appropriate discharge fitting
if the one in the box isn't the one you need. Also available in two
sizes, with a choice of straight or angled back to fit against a
bulkhead or against a sloping hull.

It's also designed to use pressurized flush water (but can use sea water
with the installation of a separate remote intake pump), making the
Elegance an excellent choice for a motor home.

It uses less water, draws less amperage, is incredibly QUIET!--and, if you

Peggie

My Elecro Scan requires a gallon and a half each flush.  How does this
toilet which uses less water accomplish this?

You've misinterpreted the instructions. The ElectroScan does NOT require
1.5 gal/flush...it can only accept a MAXIMUM of 1.5 gal/flush. (See page
2 in the owners manual: "Total flush volume MUST NOT EXCEED (emphasis
mine) 1.5 gallons per cycle." There is no minimum flush water
requirement...which is a good thing because 90% of marine toilets,
manual OR electric, only use about .5 gal/flush...toilets that offer a
"dry bowl" option use even less.

If you don't have an owners manual you can download and print one to
keep on the boat from the Raritan website:
