Just got an email from Larry Brigg's on Neptune's Chariot. He and one crew
left on Sat AM from Oahu:
"Interesting Dave; I got yours but you did not get mine sent yesterday;
all's well; making 8 knots; bouncy seas from aft;Larry"
NC is 2 days out from Oahu, Hawaii heading to 10N 160 W before turning west.
He's trying to drop due south to avoid a bit of the nasties forecasted to
the west south west of Hawaii over the next few days.
His email via Skymate will go dark by tomorrow as they don't have any
coverage West and South of Hawaii. Once he gets to around 145E then he'll
get the Japan Earth station and be back on line
I will try to post any messages I get for him as he heads to Malaysia,
perhaps non-stop or he'll stop if things present themselves. His route is ~
6000 nm and he left here with 13,800 gallons of fuel on board so no worries
on his range ;-)
For those that don't know Neptune's Chariot or Larry here's a short brief.
Larry is a man of the sea.if he makes a circumnavigation out of this trip
from Ft Lauderdale to Malaysia it would be his 5th, all in his own trawlers,
Champion (Lapworth 52'), Neptune's Chariot (Knight & Carver), Chartwell
(Cheoy Lee 55') twice and now again on Neptune's Chariot as he liked her so
well he bought it back! Plus a loop around the Pacific in his first
"offshore" trawler a wooden 30' single engine one. He also had several large
sailboats including "Invader" a 161' schooner.
Neptune's Chariot was commissioned for him in 1981. Fiberglass, single 8-71N
Detroit diesel engine, 75' on deck, 18.5' beam, 8.5' draft, 15,500 fuel and
1000 water.
All in all a pioneer in Passagemaking under power J
