Visited Hammonasset last Saturday, Old Day Hill Road today with fellow long-time birder Tom Gradante, took several photos of both birds.  Our take is a female Common Eider and a young Snow Goose.

There are a wide range of photos of the goose from yesterday, clearly showing features that rule out Snow Goose and make it a Ross’s Goose. This includes the lack of a grin patch, stubby bill, and overall posture.

Regarding the eider, a female Common was present later in the day, but there are photos of a female King Eider being present as well (1/10).

Great photos of each species can be seen on eBird.
