I have gone through FOUR Jabsco PAR-MAX 4 series shower/sump pumps in just a
few years. It isn't due to heavy use, it isn't the sensor unit, the motor
just
goes TU after a few years in a dry bilge area and won't even turn with
direct
power. Anyhow, has any one else had this problem with this brand???
Has
anybody used the Harbor Freight $29.99 12V "Marine Utility Pump" ( Looks
like a
Water Guppy knockoff)??? Any better ideas for a pump type/brand???
Thanks Russ Davignon

Hi Russ
This is just a thought, generated by a recent experience on a boat that I had the pleasure of being asked to resolve. Maybe it'll apply to your problem.
This fella had a pump in his system that kept failing also and he kept replacing it with the same make and model as was originally installed. After the 3rd or 4th replacement, in a fairly short period of time, he started looking for help.
It turned out that the original, thus all of the subsequent pumps, were the wrong size- too small, plus the wiring to the pump was too small. Switched to a larger pump and ran some wire that was better suited to that installation and everything was hunky-dory. He started smelling better too.
Maybe this is a possiblity?

Can't speak to longevity yet, but I just threw out my old shower sump and
replaced with a Whale Gulper diaphragm pump. I luckily had shower sump
switches by each shower, so now I just turn it on at the end of my shower
and everything gets pumped out quickly.

I've had my Gulper for almost 10 years. I think the shower sump pump was the
first piece of equipment to fail.

I switch to a Jabsco diaphram pump for my grey water sump. 2 years and
no failure. See

We've used the Gulpper 220 for 13 years on Rollsdoc. Ours is mounted
horizontally (vertical is recommended) atop our gray water tank with a float
switch in the tank. AC candescent drains into it along with the shower.
Nothing else. The pump lasts about 18 months before needing a new diaphragm.
If I don't see the leak soon enough the whole unit might need replacement.
There is no strainer just a 1/2" PVC pipe about an 1/8" aboe the bottom of the
tank. No clogs ever. Maybe a little bleach once in while for odor control.
This pump is used daily.
Best pump for the job.
