What is the best reference book for someone doing a major rewiring job on a
48 foot boat? In particular is there any book that follows ABYC standards
and also shows what a good installation looks like. The book dos not need
to start from ground zero as I am an electrical engineer and have a good
knowledge of the basics, just not the details for application in a marine
environment. I would consider joining ABYC and purchasing the standards but
in most cases standards are way overkill and don't really show what needs to
be done in a real environment. Also ABYC does not offer individual
memberships, only company memberships.

Not a book, but some well written mini articles. Check out www.bluesea.com
Here is one sample... http://bluesea.com/viewresource/55 I couldn't find on their site something I have used before which is an actual part of the ABYC standard.
No connection to blueseas etc...

Dan,
The biggest impediment to doing a really good job is having a really
well stocked source of supplies. Otherwise what happens is that you end
up making a lot of bad compromises.
