What's everyone else doing for hot water?
Our GB36 had been fitted with a new Atlantic Marine 10-gallon T-Series
hot water heater a year or so before we bought the boat in 1998. This
rectangular, stainless-steel heater is mounted on the upper shelf of the
cabinet behind the toilet in the aft head. It has given outstanding
performance. We continue to be amazed at how long the water stays hot
after either the AC electrical heating element or the engine that feeds
coolant to it have been shut off. A year or so ago, so when the unit
was about six years old, the electrical heating element "burned out."
It didn't really burn out, but reached the point where a small section
of the element broke away leaving a gap. I was told by several local
hot water heater dealers that this is a typical life for a heating
element of this type. Unable to find a locally available replacement, I
called Atlantic Marine directly. Their customer service person was very
responsive and sent the parts I needed right away. The instruction
manual for the heater is very clear about how to change the element-- a
very easy process.
I am not connected with Atlantic Marine Products or any of its
distributors or dealers, but I would not hesitate to recommend their
products based on our experience. They have a website--
http://www.atlantic-marine.com/ . They are located in Richmond,
Virginia. I have no idea how the prices of their hot water heaters
compare to other manufacturers since the unit was purchased and
installed by the previous owner.
