A Black-tailed Godwit is being alerted on the SW Jersey text alert system. It was found by Jon Stippick and being seen at 9:45 on a falling tide (High was about 8 AM). The location is the Pedricktown Marsh causeway, east side, on the Gloucester/Salem county border. More information as it becomes available.

Some pictures have been posted on ebird, gorgeous breeding plumage bird. As
of right now it seems like the bird has not been present for several hours
since the tide has gone out but many people are out looking. Updates are
being posted on the NJ listerv.

For what it's worth, this location had Ruff annually at this time of year
in the early 1980s. A quick check of my records shows I saw Ruffs there in
April 1980 thru 1983, with 2 in the latter year, and also one in 1987. Of
course that is no longer the case, although who knows what all this
searching will turn up.

On an interesting note.....I photographed one in Chincoteague Island,
VA. at nearly the same date a few years ago. It was hanging with a
flock of Marbled Godwit. Locate the Marbled Godwits and you found the
Black-tailed! An amazingly beautiful Godwit!
