While Awlgrip is very durable, it is a much harder paint to work with, and working with small amounts in closed spaces, as in a shower may present a larger challenge than you need.
Consider using Sherwin Williams Smooth Epoxy Floor Coating (#3589?) as I did when I rebuilt my aft shower. I may have the wrong number, but if you go to a SW store, and inquire about their concrete epoxy coating, you will get the right product, and it will cost one tenth of what you would spend for Awlgrip. Very easy to work with.
I actually removed a tub, and gained about 50 percent more space by having access to the wasted under deck area on a MT44. I lined the area with Hardi board (cement board) and put on two coats of the SW epoxy paint. So the walls were painted, while I tiled my shower floor.
The great advantage of the SW paint is that it mildews far less than tile or other tub materials do. Don't ask me why, as I have no scientific proof, other than that it perhaps is less porous? It is very easy to keep clean and exceeded our expectations. You can't go wrong by using this product. I also have done bilges with it and it has held up remarkably well too. Martin Veiner
