Hi,
One of the features that prompted me to install openscad-nightly was
the new measuring feature.
However, they're greyed-out in my first install.
A temporary thing? Or do I need to perform a special incantation to
enable those?

You need the backend to be "manifold" which you should be able to set in
Preferences->Advanced->3D Rendering->Backend.
I'm using OpenSCAD https://www.openscad.org/version 2025.01.22.ai22789
(git e6cca91c8) and once I made that change I could do measuring again.

Render with F6 to enable them.

I've been stymied by this, also. Maybe it would be more obvious if you
keep the icon enabled, but pop up an explanatory message if F6 has not
been done yet?

We should probably clean up the measurement feature a bit, either complete the implementation or provide some GUI feedback to make it easier to understand when it doesn’t work.

Render with F6 to enable them.
There must be more to it than just doing an F6 render, this was built by
last fridays AppImage, took about 4 minutes to render from a cold start.
There is no response to either distance or angle click anyplace on it,
yet I would like to know the diameter of the circular pocket in the
center, as rendered. As is, I must print it, a 22 hour job that uses
1/2 a $25 spool of cf+petg to check if that pocket actually fits the
nuts of the 2nd image. Being able to measure that pockets diameter, or
the diameter of that central tunnel that clears the screw as it enters
and leaves that block would be very valuable "does it fit" info. Humm,
does work with manifold but not wih CGAL. CGAL never finishes the render
when F6 is pressed. So I've learned something. Thank you guys.

Thanks. I've now changed the rendering backend to Manifold, and rendered
before trying to measure. Worked for me.
