TWListees:
Over the last week or two there has been a serious outbreak of intolerance
on the list. Lately, it seems that hardly a day goes by that someone isn't
p*ssed off about the content or form of someone else's post. Is it something
in the water? Too much internet and not enough cruising?
There will always be off topic posts and other wastes of bandwidth, but it
has been a tradition and a source of pride that TWL is able to absorb these
irritations without sinking to the levels of rudeness that are found
elsewhere on the internet.
In the interest of maintaining the civility of TWL allow me to make a couple
of suggestions. First, if you encounter a post that (in your opinion) either
doesn't belong on the list or is in a form that is burdensome, please
contact a member of the TWL Help Team. For those of you that may be
unfamiliar with it, the Help Team is a group of listees who have volunteered
to help Georgs and the TWL with certain administrative details. Our names,
addresses, and areas of interest are listed below:
Rick Austin rickaustin@attglobal.net (Netiquette)
Mike Eedy mikey@efni.com (floater)
Alex Hirsekorn alexh@gte.net (how to post and quote)
Frank Lawlor flawlor@bluecrab.org (HTML code, rich text et al)
Bob McLeran rmcleran@ix.netcom.com (subscribing/unsubscribing)
Jerry Munson jpmunson@home.com (flame quencher)
Norm Rose nrose@bellsouth.net (how to post and quote)
Dave Ross ross@prabiz.com (HTML code, rich text et al)
Joe Weinbrecht windsong@voicenet.com (how to use the archives).
By writing to one of us first you may find that the problem has already been
resolved or that there were some extenuating circumstances. OTOH You may be
alerting us to a problem that we hadn't previously recognized. It could also
be that you're off base yourself but we have a pretty good record of being
polite when telling you so.
Second,if you find a post so egregious that writing to a third party isn't
satisfying then, by all means, respond to the original poster; But, please
do so PRIVATELY. Public acrimony on the internet generates lots of heat but
almost no light and while it may be entertaining to some, to most it is
merely embarrassing.
Seriously yours,

If you don't like it delete it, that's what I do. Downloading the list from a
cell phone is gut wrenching at best, but trying to mold the list into a forum
that is easily downloadable on a cell will ruin it. Think about it, just a few
years ago you couldn't even get email on cell phones. The benefits of the list
are too great to try and make it conform to my needs or any individual's. I
would rather get a post that doesn't belong once and awhile than have people not
post good info because they are scared of getting blasted for their post.
