The card that comes with the unit is likely still a 4gb card, you need to write the new image to an 8gb card.

Hi Philip,
Thanks a ton for your quick advises. I have updated the OS in my own SD card. The error that I have mentioned in the first mail is no more. I'm able to run the sample code. Now I have to develop my SFCW generation application as below:
Application: The operating frequency range is of 500MHz to 3500MHz. It should first generate the SFCW signal with a step size of 23MHz @ 128 spot frequencies. The dwell time between 2 consequent frequencies should be less than 250microSec. Lock time should be less than 100microSec. Phase coherency should be maintained from frequency to frequency during the SFCW generation process (f1 to f128). This is a continuous process of regeneration soon after completion of 128 spots. Simultaneously, the generated signal to be measured using the Rx chain using the same LO in a closed loop. This is all in short about the application.
I am not sure about the feasibility of the USRPE310 board design for this application. Could you/anyone through some light on this and make some comments. It will be great to know if you/anyone else have already done any similar application.
Looking forward…
Best Regards
ADM Rao

Hi,
Before proceeding, I suggest getting an 8 GB sd card and updating the
E310 to use the current factory image from:

Use the file sdimage-gnuradio-dev.direct.xz
and write it to an 8 GB sd card with bmaptool.

Please find attached the
snapshot of error we have got while executing
the python code on USRP E310.
We are using the USRP for the first time. Kindly treat it as little
urgent and help us.

Hi ADM Rao,
let me comment on your application in-line
*Application:*The operating frequency range is of 500MHz to 3500MHz.
Covered, in principle.
It should first generate the SFCW signal with a step size of 23MHz @
128 spot frequencies.
The dwell time between 2 consequent frequencies should be less than
250microSec. Lock time should be less than 100microSec.
Puh, that's a strong requirement. 100µs is really short. The AD9361 is a
pretty versatile chip, but depending on your personal requirements for
"locked" status, this might or might not be possible, hardware-wise.
Phase coherency should be maintained from frequency to frequency
during the SFCW generation process (f1 to f128).
I don't think that will be possible; the LO synthesizers in the chip
always have a random phase after tuning.
This is a continuous process of regeneration soon after completion of
128 spots. Simultaneously, the generated signal to be measured using
the Rx chain using the same LO in a closed loop. This is all in short
about the application.
The problem here is that TX and RX LO are independent, so tuning both at
exactly the same time will be hard to impossible, because the tuning
command has to go through the same serial control port.
What you describe would be possible with a SBX card and an N200/N210, or
the SBX or UBX and an X300/X310, but your lock timing will still be very
hard to achieve. However, with an X3x0 and two daughterboards, you could
interleave frequencies; or you could actually use the 120MHz or 160MHz
bandwidth of the the SBX-120 or the UBX-160 daughterboard, respectively
and send/receive 5 or 6 frequencies at once.
Best regards,
Marcus

Hi Philip,
Thanks a ton for your quick advises. I have updated the OS in my own
SD card. The error that I have mentioned in the first mail is no more.
I'm able to run the sample code. Now I have to develop my SFCW
generation application as below:
*Application:*The operating frequency range is of 500MHz to 3500MHz.
It should first generate the SFCW signal with a step size of 23MHz @
128 spot frequencies. The dwell time between 2 consequent frequencies
should be less than 250microSec. Lock time should be less than
100microSec. Phase coherency should be maintained from frequency to

using the same LO in a closed loop. This is all in short about the
application.
I am not sure about the feasibility of the USRPE310 board design for
this application. Could you/anyone through some light on this and make
some comments. It will be great to know if you/anyone else have
already done any similar application.
Looking forward…
Best Regards
ADM Rao

The new image needs an 8gb card. Your screen shots suggest you are
using a smaller card.

The card that comes with the unit is likely still a 4gb card, you
need to write the new image to an 8gb card.
