I've taken on stewardship for the trail behind the Zoo Maintenance yard (parallel to Animal Loop Road) and *will be doing 4 work parties this year there*. Nerd out factor is, I will do a little native plant walk at the start as there are some fun things to see even this early in the season. March 1 9:30-10am native plant walk 10-12 blackberry, foxglove, and thistle removal appropriate for age 12+ with parent (we'll be using loppers and wrestling with prickly canes). The long term plan is to restore the trail with native trees/shrubs grown from cuttings (and woodland wildflowers grown from seed collected there), from plants along the trail (planting will be during the fall). It's a great spot (for birding and wandering), wide smooth trail, close to the zoo, and a lovely welcome to the forest (and, it will be close to Phase 2 Loop paved trail).
