John:
I am very familiar with Mobile Bay and in fact have stayed quite often at
Eastern Shore Marine. In my opinion the two best choices are in fact
Eastern Shore Marine or Dog River Marina. Each has something to offer.
Eastern Shore Marine is small, but does have a service yard. It is located
near the town of Fairhope which is a delight to visit. You would also be
near Daphne and shopping, etc. They do have a courtesy car. Enterprise Car
Rental has a location only a mile or so away if you wanted to go to the
outlet shops that are about 20 miles away. Also, no problem with walking,
bike riding, etc. if you are so inclined as residential areas surround the
marina.
Dog River Marina is much larger and is better equipped for major repair.
They have a West Marine on site. They are in a rather remote location so
shopping is more of an issue. A courtesy car will get you to limited local
shopping but a rental car would definitely be needed for anything else.
Both had extensive damage from Katrina but have completely
remodeled/rebuilt.
The owners/operators of each are great people and will treat you well.

When we get to Mobile, we'll need to stay ... I'll be staying with the
boat. Does anyone<
have any recommendations as to which marina to stay at in the Mobile
area?<
It should have good transient facilities (laundry, showers) and be<
reasonably close to groceries. <
I would stay at Eastern Shore Marina in Fairhope, AL. They are nice
people,
have a courtesy car and Fairhope is a neat little town with shops,
restaurants, parks etc.
