E100 : 32 kHz audio problem

Hi list,

i'm still digging in my E100 and trying to
implement an FM receiver. I can make it work,
but i realize there is still an audio problem.
i can't use 32 kHz audio rate (nor 22050). The E100 supports it,
but it only outputs noise.

i send you essai_audio.py to check it. The ouput
shows underflows which is enough strange.

i can only use 16 k, 44.1 k and 48 k.

As the E100 uses an 64 MHz clock, the 32 kHz is very usefull because
you can divide master clock by 2000 to get it.

So my FM receiver uses a 16 KHz audio rate. It works, but
i loose part of the spectrum.

any ideas are welcome !!!

Regards.

I found that using "default" as the playback device and "hw:0,0" as the capture device work best on the omap3530 processor with gnuradio.

aaaw, completely forgot about the the alsa.conf configuration ... so you're absolutely right the driver supports more sampling frequencies than it will allow you to do the only I figured out how to get around it is by changing the default frequency in your "alsa.conf" file, i forget the exact directory where it is.  In the conf file look for default frequency ... it defaults to 48000 Hz change that to your desired frequency 16000Hz or 32000Hz and you should be set to go.

this is more of a quick and dirty fix and might impact audio performance in programs other than gnuradio personally I only use audio in gnuradio so I never bothered looking up a cleaner solution.

in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf
i have changed the line :

 defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 48000

to 32000 with no success. this has no effect
on my gnuradio script (even after reboot). Same output.

Are you able to hear something at least with some skipping or you can't hear anything?  Are the aU's outputed to the screen very fast or are they a few at a time?  It might be that the processor is not able to keep up with your data processing in the flowgraph itself and you actually need to perform some flowgraph optimization.  For example a channel filter can definitely kill your runtime performance if you're not neon or dsp optimizing it.

I'll download your script and run it on my E100 but I might not get around that till early next week ...

in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf
i have changed the line :

defaults.pcm.dmix.rate 48000

to 32000 with no success. this has no effect
on my gnuradio script (even after reboot). Same output.

aaaw, completely forgot about the the alsa.conf configuration ... so you're absolutely right the driver supports more sampling frequencies than it will allow you to do the only I figured out how to get around it is by changing the default frequency in your "alsa.conf" file, i forget the exact directory where it is.

I tried both, same result. This is the

erminal output using 32 kHz audio sample rate :

root@usrp-e1xx:~/grc# ./essai_audio.py

ress Enter to quit:

I found that using "default" as the playback device and "hw:0,0" as the

capture device work best on the omap3530 processor with gnuradio.

Subject: [USRP-users] E100 : 32 kHz audio problem

Hi list,

i'm still digging in my E100 and trying to

implement an FM receiver.

Regards.
